  • Developed by CENIT within the In.ModaPortugal 4.0 project, the "Well-Made in Portugal" programme aims to differentiate, disseminate, and promote the Portuguese production of home textiles, clothing and fashion, directly to the final consumer in national and international markets.Aiming to involve the Portuguese textile, clothing and fashion producers, the "Well-Made in Portugal" programme certifies that the products purchased are made in Portugal and respond to the current requirements as far as the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) are concerned.Using a differentiating label, the "Well-Made in Portugal" programme recognises and differentiates the competences of "well-made and made well" that characterise the Portuguese industry. This programme is a joint response, involving major industrial associations and international retailers, to promote the products produced in Portugal, directly at the point of sale.

  • The "Well Made in Portugal" programme is a multisectorial initiative developed by CENIT – Centro de Inteligência Têxtil, involving several industry associations and major international retailers. This initiative aims to promote, directly in national and international consumer markets, fashion products mainly manufactured in Portugal, covering, in a first phase, clothing, home textiles and footwear products. It is hoped that, as the programme develops and matures, it will be possible to extend the scope of application to other relevant products, such as fashion accessories.

The programme encompasses a set of requirements, aligned with the main international reference standards. Associated with the programme is the Code of Conduct, which defends, in addition to manufacturing in Portugal, the scrupulous respect for environmental, labour and social conditions in the manufacturing process.

Upon approval, the applicant company will be able to use a differentiating label for its products, the "Well-Made in Portugal". The programme represents, therefore, a joint effort that ensures the added value of the fashion products manufactured in Portugal.

  • Once it is up and running, any producer of home textiles, clothing or fashion may freely apply to the "Well-Made in Portugal" programme. The producer will have to comply with the programmes' Code of Conduct and, once it feels comfortable with the requirements, a specialized audit will be scheduled, which will validate the compliance of the company, and its main suppliers with the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) requirements, as well as the guarantees that establish that a consistent part of the production is produced in Portugal.

Considering that everything goes as planned, the company fully complies with the programmes' Code of Conduct, and is now free to use our distinctive label, differentiating its products in retail and assuring the final customer that the product is made according to the upmost requirements in ESG terms.

Approved companies will be audited on a yearly or two-yearly frequency, revalidating the compliance, and assuring the final consumer that the choices made are regularly scrutinised and verified.
