“As a chemical products company operating for over 25 years, we understood that it was time to make the transition, and we believe, once again, that science is the answer to all the needs and all the problems we face today,” said Ricardo Costa, CEO of NGC.
The company has developed biological products applicable to all fibres, replacing petrochemicals without requiring industrial changes. The T-shirt, produced by Impetus, was made using marine microorganism biodetergents, microalgae-based bio-softeners and natural pigments derived from regenerative agriculture.
Through its investment in Turkish company Anatolian Dyes, NGC has also gained control of biological pigments, already processing over 20 tonnes of textiles per week. In addition to being sustainable, the technology is also more economical: it allows savings of up to 40% in energy and 30% in water, with a processing cost of just €0.80 per piece.
“There’s no longer the excuse of price, there’s no longer the excuse of scalability. NoPetrol has come today to completely revolutionise the world of fashion,” emphasised Ricardo Costa, who now aims to conquer the global market from Portugal. “It’s in NGC’s DNA – Next Generation Chemistry. We must stop talking and start acting. We have to start making a difference,” he concluded.
